Did you know Bison, the USA’s National Mammal, once roamed around South Carolina? They were quickly extirpated by Europeans, however thanks to Tatanka Bison Ranch, the Thunderbeast has returned to the Palmetto State! Join Capt. Zach and ranch owner Fred Ilse on a trip back in time as we head out into his pastures into the middle of Tatanka’s Bison herd and learn about the natural history of bison, what it takes to manage a herd of bison, and if we’re lucky we’ll experience the herd thunder across the pastures like back in the old days.

This adventure is a mix of ecotourism & agritourism as we encounter native wildlife, but since there are no wild prairie landscapes left in SC, there are members of this herd that are harvested and their products are sold by Fred which you can purchase at the end of the our tour. We do this trip twice a year so we can see newly born bison calves in the Spring & then come back in the Fall as it's nice & cool out after those brutal SC Summers.
