Spider Lily Paddle
multiple dates available
Catawba, SC

The Safari
Have you ever heard of an “Endangered Plant”? The Rocky Shoals Spider Lily is one such species of plant that we nearly lost to extinction. The absolutely gorgeous flowers come into bloom in May & June and Landsford Canal State Park in Catawba SC has one of the largest populations of Spider Lilies in the world. While typically we go to view wildlife on safaris, this safari will be focused on the plants. We will be on a private guided paddling trip down this stretch of the Catawba River where we will launch & exit the river from within the state park. The shallow, fast-moving water create the perfect growing conditions for Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies. Our paddling trip allows us the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the river, an in-depth history of the park, and a chance to explore and take photos of the lilies themselves. This paddle can be somewhat difficult as this stretch of the Catawba River is very shallow, so it's very easy to get stuck on rocks. Captain Zach will be leading the pack through the Class 1 & 2 rapids. You must know how to swim in order to take part in this safari.
