The Safari

On Labor Day Weekend 2023, Hurricane Idalia blew up the Carolina Coast bringing with her a pair of American Flamingoes who landed just outside of Charleston, SC on Bulls Island. One bird took off to parts unknown a few days later, however the other bird has decided to stay put. Bulls Island has wetlands full of crustaceans & plants for the bird, known by locals as "Jimmy," to feed on and thrive in the Palmetto State! Bulls Island is also full of wildlife from Birds, to mammals, a healthy amount of alligators we'll have plenty of sightings to tell your friends & family about when you get home. We are surprised he's hung out so long and have decided to capitalize on this rare opportunity!

Fair warning: The hike to the location where Jimmy the Flamingo hangs out will be a 4-mile round trip. There's no guarantee this animal will hang around until our scheduled trip date. We will be checking in with the ferry operator leading up to the trip.

We will meet in the parking lot to the Bulls Island Ferry at 9:30am. Captain Zach will be standing in the parking lot to greet you & check you in upon arrival. There are restrooms available at the parking lot & on the island where we’ll be birding. After everyone checks in, we’ll board the ferry & head to Bulls Island which departs at 10am. You’re welcome to bring cameras and take pictures. After checking all of the pre-determined hotspots (~3-4hrs later), we’ll head back to the dock and catch the ferry to the parking lot & part ways.

Guests who arrive late will be left behind and unable to receive a refund.

In the unlikely event of inclement weather, we may cancel or postpone the trip the day prior to departure and will call the number you provided on your reservation to let you know.
