You don't have to travel out west to see the majestic Elk because we have them right in our backyard at Great Smoky Mountain National Park! Elk once occurred across the continental USA, however early American settlers extirpated them and many species we think about. In the early 2000's the National Park Service reintroduced Elk from the Rocky Mountain range and they have since established and are flourishing. We will spend the weekend between two well knonw Elk hotspots observing & photographing them as well as adventuring to a waterfall or two & taking in the Fall Colors that occur this time of year.

This time of year the rut will be going on and the big males will be chasing the females in the large herds to breed as well as fending off any would-be challengers. If we're lucky we'll get to hear the bulls bugle! It's a sound you'll never forget.
